Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro Overview
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro is a slider smartphone running on the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system. The sliding keyboard is designed for fast and accurate messaging as opposed to other handsets with touchscreen interfaces. Slightly larger than the Xperia Ray, the 3.7 inch screen on the Pro utlises the same FWVGA Reality Display, a scratch-resistant screen based on the Sony Bravia Engine best known for its vibrant colours, pinpoint sharpness, noise reduction, colour management and vivid contrast. The XPeria Pro comes in three distinct colours: black, silver, and red.
The Xperia Pro comes equipped with a Sony Exmor R CMOS sensor camera that ensure maximum light exposure. The 8.1 megapixel lens features an abundance of unique features such as high quality zoom, aperture, facial recognition and smile detection capabilities. The detection system can be used in a number of applications, most notably to sort photo albums and pictures by facial data. In addition to photos, the camera is capable of recording and playing back video at resolutions of up to 720p.
Furthermore, the Xperia Pro is designed for office professionals, with Office Suite Pro coming preloaded, giving users the opportunity to view and edit documents on their handsets. Unlike the Blackberry, however, the Xperia Pro has been built on the architecture of the Xperia Play, providing the processing power to play even the most advanced 3D games.
A Guide To The Xperia Pro
Most of the new line of Xperia handsets feature similar builds and specifications. Like most Android phones, below the screen is a Back, Home, and Menu button, with only the Search button omitted. The placement of the shutter button makes taking pictures easy and intuitive, and an HDMI Slot is provided for TV connectivity.
Under the hood is a 1 GHz Scorpion processor with an Adreno 205 GPU and 512 MB RAM, making the Xperia Pro capable of playing high definition movies and running advanced games. The Pro will run on the latest Android operating system, Gingerbread 2.3 with Sony Ericsson's proprietary TimeScape software overlaid. The difference between the Xperia Pro and its cousins the Arc, Neo, and Ray, is its size and slide out keyboard.
Designed with business applications in mind, the Xperia Pro comes loaded with Office Suite Pro and Adobe Flash 10.1 support. The slide out keyboard and predictive text software makes editing and crafting documents much simpler than with a touchscreen UI. Storage capacity is plentiful, with 1 GB of internal memory (320 MB usable) and a microSD slot to expand to up to 32 GB. Furthermore, the detail and sharpness of each document is unparalleled given the 3.7 inch Reality Display.
Unlike with earlier Xperia models, Sony Ericsson's Timescape overlay is not locked into the Android OS, making future updates painless to install. Timescape's newest incarnation is vastly improved, employing better use of widgets for software such as media player and social networking via Facebook.
With its 1500 mAh lithium-ion battery, the Xperia Pro will last for approximately 6 to 7 hours worth of call time, 31 hours of music play, 7 hours of video playback, and 400 hours of standby. Average battery life will vary depending on usage and bandwidth speed. The Xperia Pro is 2G and 3G ready.
