Earlier this week we brought you news that Vodafone had pushed back the release of their HTC Magic phone until May, but until now it wasn't clear as to why this had happened.

Pocket Lint have managed to speak to both Vodafone and HTC regarding the matter and it appears that a last minute hardware change has caused the delay.

According to a HTC spokeman:

"We are delighted with the interest that the HTC Magic has received since its launch with Vodafone at Mobile World Congress 2009. We are confident that Vodafone’s customers will be delighted with the HTC Magic in spite of a short delay due to a last minute hardware change".

As of yet there has been no official confirmation from Vodafone as to any delay of the HTC Magic, and there website still cites an April release for the phone.

Vodafone says only that: "The UK launch date for the HTC Magic has not yet been confirmed".

Phone industry website Mobile Today have revealed that Vodafone will launch their first Android powered handset on May 1st as opposed to their original launch date of sometime in April.

The article also goes on to mention that the phone will be called the HTC Magic Pioneer and will be available Free from Vodafone as part of a £25 per month contract.

No sources were mentioned nor quoted in the article, and as you can see from the Official Vodafone website there is no information to suggest the launch has been delayed.

We'll keep you posted on the latest HTC Magic (Pioneer?) updates, but until we hear some official confirmation this is almost certainly flagged as rumour.

The guys over at Engadget have managed to get their paws on the black model of the Vodafone HTC Magic, and they seem to like it.

According to the representative they spoke to this isn't the final built model and when launched the Vodafone brand will replacing the current HTC logo you can see in the pictures. The rep also commented on HTC's commitment to the Android platform and predicts many more Android powered HTC devices to be revealed in the near future.

Here's some images of the Vodafone HTC Magic black model:

Following Vodafone's recent announcement that they plan to launch the second Android phone in April - The HTC Magic, the only images of the handset that have been circulated are of the white model.

Whilst we love the style of the HTC Magic White, the black model has recently been spotted at the CeBit show, and here's some of the snaps.

As you can see from the images, the device is branded with the HTC logo which backs up predictions that the handset is due to hit the United States later this year as the HTC G2. But luckily for us in the UK we can get our hands on this beauty in April thanks to Vodafones exclusivitiy.
