Following on from the recent announcement by Motorola, Orange UK have today confirmed that they will be offering the upcoming Motorola DEXT Android phone exclusively from October.

The Motorola DEXT will be Orange UK's second Android handset (following on from their launch of the HTC Hero), and will be the first Motorola handset to feature their new MOTOBLUR user interface.

Powered by Android, MOTOBLUR will allow users to synch contacts, posts, feeds, messages, e-mails, and photos from social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Gmail and Yahoo.

A QWERTY slider, Motorola DEXT is packed full of features including: * Touch screen capabilities * 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and connected to Facebook, Picassa, Photobucket or MySpace for easy uploading * Video speed of 24 frames per second for easy capture & upload to share with friends, as well as playback capability for favorite YouTube videos * A full HTML browser, 3G speed and Wi-Fi * A 3.5 mm headset jack for your own headphones and easily connect to your music, create your own playlist or discover new music by seeing what your friends are listening to on LastFM * Packed with Google Mobile Services: Maps, Talk, Mail, Voice Search, Integrated GPS for turn by turn directions and a rich HMTL browser * Access to thousands of apps through Android marketplace * A removable 2GB Micro SD card * Supports up to 32GB MicroSD for all of your photos, music and more

The Motorola DEXT will be available free to new Orange customers as part of a 2 year £34.26 per month contract.

The Orange package will include 900 any network call minutes, unlimited texts, Orange Maps as well as inclusive anytime internet browsing so users can make the most from their mobile experience.

Reports are sweeping across the various tech blogs this morning, confirming that a new firmware update for the T-Mobile G1 is now available. So far limited to the US, the RC33 G1 update has already made its way to a handful of G1 owners.

It is not currently known what new features this new update contains, but it has been confirmed that this isn't the much anticipated 'Cupcake' update.

“To ensure a great experience with the T-Mobile G1 with Google, customers with these devices will receive an Over the Air (OTA) update to their devices between February 5 and February 15. This OTA will include new system enhancements such as the ability to save pictures or files to file by long-pressing an item, check for system updates, and use the Google Voice Search feature. The OTA will also fix a number of known issues. New G1 activations will receive the OTA up to three days after service has been activated.”

In the past, the UK G1 update has followed the US release so hopefully we should expect to see an RC 9 firmware update over the coming weeks.
